Frequently Asked Questions about NSBCPA Governance and Applying for the Board of Directors

What positions are available on the Board of Directors?

The Board of Directors is elected for a period of two years. Each year the Nominating Committee, comprising five NSBCPA members appointed by the Board Chairperson and approved by the Board of Directors, selects eight to fifteen individuals to serve as Members of the Board of Directors, based on the number of vacancies available due to term expiration as well as death or resignation of an incumbent.

What are the qualifications for nomination?

Nominees must be members in good standing. If elected, it is expected that they will participate actively in the work of the Society and assist in efforts to enhance its financial viability, including by contributing, within their means, to its financial support. Additional qualifications for particular offices are outlined in the Guidelines.

What factors does the Nominating Committee consider when making its selections?

The Committee may consider a multitude of factors, including a candidate’s history of engagement with the Society and readiness to assume additional responsibilities. In addition, the Committee makes maximum efforts to ensure that the composition of the Board reflects the breadth and diversity of the membership, including with respect to diverse viewpoints and perspectives, as outlined in the Guidelines.

The nominating instructions say to submit a 1-2 page CV. Can I send my whole CV instead?

The Nominating Committee encourages you to customize the resume you include in your application to reflect the activities and scholarship most relevant to your involvement with the Society. If you submit a CV that exceeds that limit, only the first two pages will be reviewed.
